Published under Books, Metaphysics on June 7, 2008Honestly, why in the heck do books on religious topics such as paganism, druidism, and wicca end up in the metaphysical and new age section at chapters . ..
Well parapsychology is the technical branch of metaphysics which explores spiritual, psychic and paranormal phenonmenon.
The only problem is, most places have coined the term Metaphysics to mean EVERYTHING in the psychic/paranormal realm. You’ll find many schools that teach Metaphysics and yuo get everything from psychic development and tarot under that heading to “creating abundance in your life” and a series of lessons on self help and thinking positively with barely any mention of psychic development. Geez, even yoga has been found under the metaphysical heading lately.
So I think the original meaning of metaphysics has gone the way of history, it’s not used for what it is anymore, and the real terms of metaphysics has to do more with parapsychology, which everyone stays away from because they don’t want to be confused with being a branch of psychology . . . .essentially though, metaphysics has become that, a branch of psychology because of the ways metaphysicians interpret energy based on a psychological analyzation of astrology, tarot cards, or simply their own intuition, clairvoyance, empathy, telepathy, etc.
But of course we’re still a long ways off from being considered a professional service that is free of religious bias, that still comes through loud and clear and I believe that all the books on religion that appear in the metaphysical section should just be removed, send them off to the religious section where they belong and stop calling religion Christian and start calling it everything from Jewish to Pagan to Buddhist and yep, even Satanism. It’s just ridiculous how something like paganism could be in the section of metaphysics or new age. I teach both and you know what, you can believe whatever you want when learning it, it’s not something that has to be religiously bias to be taught.
But there’s my rant of the day.
